Volunteering with YC Hertfordshire
If you've got the energy and enthusiasm to help young people realise their potential, we want to hear from you.
YC Hertfordshire works with at risk and vulnerable young people aged 11+ to develop their personal and social skills including helping them increase in confidence and explore issues affecting them, such as healthy relationships, staying safe and emotional wellbeing. We are looking for adult volunteers to be part of a youth work team; to plan and deliver a range of engaging and educational youth work projects and programmes.Projects focus on particular issues or groups, such as
- LGBTQ young people
- Young people with learning disabilities
- Young people in care and leaving care
- Young parents or carers
What skills or experience do I need? How much time do I need to give? Where will I be located? What will I gain from the role?
Our youth work teams deliver in a variety of settings across Hertfordshire. This includes young people’s centres, community buildings, schools and colleges, as well as in parks and on the streets; wherever young people gather.
You will need to be able to commit to a minimum of one project a week.
Each local team has a range of projects and programmes that operate throughout the week, mainly after school and evenings, including on Fridays and Saturdays.
We are looking for people with energy, enthusiasm and diverse experience to further enhance our local teams. Skills in a particular area such as sports, arts, music, media or outdoor activities are welcome. Most important is your interest in engaging with a diverse range of young people who need our help and support.
You will have the opportunity to get involved in your local community and promote the positive contribution of young people.
You will also be working with young people to plan and design programmes that develop the skills and address the issues that are important to them.
You will take part in programmes and events that are challenging and rewarding. You will be given initial and ongoing training and support. You will also be working alongside experienced staff in our projects.
Is there anything else I need to know?
All potential volunteers will be interviewed, are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and will need to provide references.
What training and support will I be given?
You will be given initial and ongoing training and support. You will also be working alongside experienced staff in our projects.
