YC Hertfordshire supports the Welwyn Hatfield Careers Fair

23 October 2019

YC Hertfordshire Personal Advisers were at hand to support and advise over 800 students with future career pathways, options and opportunities at the Welwyn Hatfield Careers Fair earlier this month.

The event was organised by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Roche Products Ltd and The Careers and Enterprise Company and more than thirty local and national businesses took part, including MBDA, Brocket Hall, Hertfordshire County Council, Waitrose and John Lewis, and Lamborghini.

Year 11 students from Monk’s Walk, Bishop’s Hatfield, Chancellors, Onslow St Audrey’s, Stanborough, Ridgeway, Lakeside and Knightsfield attended. The event was the first time local businesses came together to enable secondary schools in the borough to have access to careers information all on one day.

The event was an opportunity for the students to make connections with local businesses, find out more about the skills and qualities businesses look for when recruiting, and the types of training and apprenticeship programmes they offer. They also spoke with current apprentices to hear first-hand about their experiences.

YC Hertfordshire Youth Workers ensured young people and teachers were aware of the projects and programmes in the area which support young people’s personal and social development.

The event was attended by Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps, the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Sarah Beazley as well as local councilors.
