‘Move It’ Programme Success

12 April 2019

Young people from Hertsmere who took part in the ‘Move It’ programme produced and delivered by YC Hertfordshire, Hertfordshire County Council’s youth service, have enjoyed improving their physical fitness and wellbeing - while all achieving the Duke of Edinburgh’s Sectional Awards.

The nine-week programme took place at The Venue Leisure Centre in Borehamwood – and was led by a professional boxing coach and YC Hertfordshire Youth Workers. The sessions included coaching on circuit training, skipping, cardio work, self-defence, boxing techniques, pad work and punch bags – and were aimed at increasing the young people’s fitness levels. Each physical session was then followed with a weekly session around healthy eating and healthy lifestyles.

Pamela, aged 16, from Hertswood Academy said: "I’ve loved learning how to box and have been made to think about the importance of a healthy balanced diet."

Ellis Weintrob, Senior YC Hertfordshire Youth Worker in Hertsmere said: "I’m thrilled to see the progress that the young people have made. They have showed commitment throughout the programme and I have noticed some real improvement with the group’s fitness levels and subsequently their confidence."
